1,847kg of drugs destroyed at GT Karnal Road event

New Delhi: Police organised a ‘mega drug destruction event’ in northwest Delhi’s GT Karnal Road as part of its ‘drug-free Delhi by 2027′ campaign, destroying 1,847 kg of narcotics worth about Rs 35 crore on Monday.The ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ has led to the destruction of over 45,000 kg of drugs worth Rs 13,796 crore over the past three years in seven rounds. Lieutenant governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and police commissioner Satish Golchha were also present at the event.Special commissioner of police (crime) Devesh Chandra Srivastava said, “The campaign aims to achieve a drug-free Delhi by 2027 by demonstrating the govt’s firm stand against drug-related crimes, educating the public on the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of community cooperation.” In compliance with Supreme Court orders, police committees listed substances from cases between 1974 and 2025, including cannabis, charas, heroin, cocaine, amphetamine, tramadol and alprazolam.
